2027 ODI World Cup: Venue, Dates, Qualification, Teams And All You Need To Know – ABP Live

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 is poised to be jointly hosted by South Africa and Zimbabwe, marking their second collaboration since the 2003 edition. Namibia is set to debut as a host nation, expanding the tournament to 14 participating teams, following the format used in 2003. Scheduled for October and November 2027, this 14th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup in One Day International (ODI) cricket will span across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Team Qualifications

Regarding team qualification, South Africa and Zimbabwe, serving as co-hosts, secure automatic qualifications. The top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings gain direct qualification, while the remaining four spots will be determined through global qualifier tournaments. Despite Namibia co-hosting, their participation isn’t assured due to non-membership status, requiring them to earn qualification like any other non-full ICC member.

The competition format will involve two groups of seven teams each. The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage, leading to semi-finals and a final to determine the ultimate winner. Teams will play each other once in the group stage, like in the 2003 World Cup format. Additionally, the 2027 edition reintroduces a modified version of the points carry forward (PCF) system, previously used in 1999. Points carried forward from the initial pool stage will give each team two points for a win over a Super Six qualified team, and one for a win over an eliminated side.

The locations and dates for the 2027 edition’s venues remain unknown as of now, but there’s a likelihood that the venues will resemble those from the 2003 edition. During the 2003 tournament, matches were spread across 12 stadiums in South Africa, two in Zimbabwe, and one in Kenya.

Coming to the recently concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Australia staged a remarkable comeback from their tournament’s initial woes clinching a dominant victory over the favourites- India, securing their sixth ODI World Cup title. Travis Head’s stunning century played a crucial role in this triumph on Indian soil, placing Australia four titles ahead of any other nation on cricket’s global stage.

Uganda Qualify For T20 World Cup As Zimbabwe Miss Out – Barron’s

Uganda will make their first appearance at a cricket World Cup next year after qualifying on Thursday for the T20 tournament to be hosted by the West Indies and the United States.

A nine-wicket win over Rwanda secured Uganda second place in the African regional qualifying event, joining Namibia at the 2024 T20 World Cup while eliminating Zimbabwe from contention.

Uganda bowled Rwanda out for just 65 and knocked off the runs in 8.1 overs to record their fifth win in six matches in Windhoek.

Qualifying hosts Namibia sealed their spot on Tuesday with a 58-run win over Tanzania, ensuring they will play at a third consecutive T20 World Cup.

Zimbabwe, who lost to both Namibia and Uganda, will miss out for the second time in three editions.

They did not participate in the 2021 showpiece after the ICC suspended Zimbabwe’s membership because of government interference.

Zimbabwe also failed to reach the last two 50-over World Cups. Their recent absence in India cost them the chance to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

African minnows Uganda stun cricket, qualify for T20 World Cup … – Fox Sports

Uganda has qualified for the men’s T20 World Cup for the first time in the nation’s history.

The 23rd-ranked side smashed Rwanda on Thursday to guarantee they would advance along with Namibia out of the African qualifiers.

But that in turn meant Zimbabwe, who beat eventual finalist Pakistan at the 2022 tournament, has missed out altogether and will not appear in the 20-team field.

“It is pretty surreal,” Uganda captain Brian Masaba said.

“I can’t put words to the emotions we are feeling now as a team. It’s massive for Ugandan cricket and huge for African cricket, especially, for a country like Uganda to make it to the World Cup.”

Uganda’s upset win over Zimbabwe last weekend by five wickets came in their first T20 international against a full ICC member.

The 20 qualifiers will be split into four groups of five with the top two in each group advancing to the Super 8 stage. They will there be divided into two groups of four, with the top two advancing into the knockouts, before the final on June 30.
