Zimbabwe’s first ever musical animated series coming to a YouTube near you – Technology Zimbabwe

If there is anything we share, it is our pride in being Zimbabwean. Listen, I know, sometimes we are ashamed of our country. But that’s like being ashamed when a sibling does a stupid thing in public. You still love them despite the embarrassment.

I listen to music, like a lot. I put in at least 8 hours of Spotify a day. There’s not a genre I don’t enjoy but there’s something that happens to me when I listen to Zimbabwean music. I feel connected to my roots, even if I can’t explain what I mean by ‘my roots.’

We have a rich musical history in this country. I’m listening to Willis Wataffi as I write this and there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing. You can go back to the 60s and you’d still find quality Zimbabwean music.

That is not the case with video content. There have been some good shows, movies even, but most of what has been made has just not been good enough. That’s not surprising, video is harder to make than music.

It especially feels that way because we usually don’t have any idea what’s really going on in Zimbabwe. There are some talented people making quality stuff that we never hear about. This is why you gotta love organisations like Comexposed that expose you to the good stuff in the country.

“Comexposed curates, showcases, and promotes digital art and pop culture content that tells new African stories.” Comexposed is a division of Kay Media Africa which produced ‘Zimbabwe’s first ever local animated series.’

Ephemeral Tales – The Tale of Stavo

This is a four-part animated musical series that “combines animation and music, inspired by Zimbabwean urban culture, to tell a thought-provoking story that dives headfirst into social themes and explores issues affecting young people in ways that most have shied away from.”

The series will be rolled out in August with episodes being released on a weekly basis on the Comexposed YouTube Channel.

Credits

The team behind the show includes animators and digital artists such as Tavonga Shumbanhete and Chanelle Katsidzira collaborating with local Afro- fusion singer-songwriter Masa Caroleen and rapper Prophecy.

The music was composed by music producers Tinashe “Texas” Matekwe and Innocent “Mr Flow” Masamba.

The team worked under the guidance of multimedia designer, Eugene Mapondera, and music and film producer Keith Kuhudzai.

Work on the project began in February this year and you will be able to watch it on YouTube after it premiers on the 4th of August.

The project was funded by the Sound Connects Fund, an initiative by the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) and Goethe-Institut. The Sound Connects Fund is made possible with the financial contribution of the European Union and the support of the Organisation of ACP States.

Fit-again Rahul to lead India in Zimbabwe ODIs, Shikhar to be his deputy – Social News XYZ

Fit-again Rahul to lead India in Zimbabwe ODIs, Shikhar to be his deputy

Mumbai, Aug 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) India on Thursday named fit-again KL Rahul as the captain for the ODIs against Zimbabwe after the BCCI medical team cleared the batter to play in the three-match series, starting on August 18.

The 30-year-old Rahul has been out of action for a while with a sports hernia, with Covid-19 extending his stint on the sidelines.

Shikhar Dhawan was initially named as the captain for this tour. But with Rahul being given the go-ahead, he has been appointed as the captain with Dhawan taking deputy duties.

”The BCCI Medical Team has assessed KL Rahul and cleared him to play in the upcoming three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has appointed him the captain of the side and named Shikhar Dhawan as his deputy,” the BCCI said in a statement.

After the conclusion of IPL 2022, Rahul was scheduled to captain India in the home T20Is against South Africa but missed out owing to a groin injury. The spell on the sidelines was extended after it was revealed that the 30-year-old would require surgery. Consequently, Rahul missed the tour of England and Ireland.

The opener was scheduled to return at the just-concluded tour of West Indies and USA but following a positive Covid-19 result, the BCCI medical team advised him to rest. He has already been named in India’s squad for the Asia Cup at the end of this month.

All the three ODIs of India’s tour of Zimbabwe will be held at the Harare Sports Club.

India’s squad for 3 ODIs: KL Rahul (Captain) Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.

Post-Mugabe-era film ‘President’ banned by Zimbabwe censorship board – TimesLIVE

“Zimbabwean law does provide for a challenge to the decision, initially through a request for full reasons, and subsequently court action; since the reasons given are not satisfactory.

“This case is highly significant to jurisprudence on freedom of expression, artistic freedom, and media rights; in Zimbabwe and beyond. The limitations to free expression that are permissible under domestic and international law are not, as far as we are concerned, applicable to the film President,” said Nielsson.

President premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year and won the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award.

It is a sequel to Nielsson’s documentary Democrats which won best documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival 2015. Democrats was initially censored in Zimbabwe, but in 2018 Nielsson won a three-year legal battle to lift the ban.

President was released across the US on the Public Broadcasting Service award-winning POV documentary series on August 8.
