These are the AMD Ryzen Pro 8000 chips for desktop and Ryzen Pro 8040 for mobile. Additionally, there are Pro variants of the 8000G chips from earlier this year. What difference does that make?

The Pro chips have additional functionality that is beneficial or even required for professional use. This includes the Microsoft Pluton for encryption and additional memory protection, better ECC support, Secure Encrypted Virtualization, remote management features and so on.

The new Pro 8000 series offers up to 39 TOPS of AI processing power on desktop and up to 16 TOPS on mobile (vs. 34 and 11 TOPS on 14th Gen Intels). This is on low power chips with TDPs topping out at 45 to 65W watts.

The new series is fabbed on TSMC’s 4nm node, which offers improved efficiency compared to the older 5nm node that was used in the Ryzen 7000 series. The processors use Zen 4 CPU cores and RDNA 3 graphics. Note that some of the lower end models lack the Ryzen AI feature.

The NPUs will accelerate a variety of tasks – from summarizing emails and composing a response, to powering voice assistants and enhancing images and videos. Such tasks can be handled by a GPU, of course, but NPUs use less power to do the same work.

Lenovo and HP will be introducing laptops iwht Ryzen Pro 8040 and 8000 series processors, along with mobile workstations and desktops. Microsoft will leverage the NPU for its Copilot feature.

Baby dies strapped on mother’s back during assault by father

Patrick Chitumba, Online Reporter

A suspected abusive husband allegedly fatally struck his five -month -old baby who was strapped on his wife’s back during a scuffle.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed that police are investigating a murder case in which the infant Annita died during a scuffle between her parents Erinando Makena and her mother Faith Mpofu.

He said the incident occurred on April 26 at around 8PM in Chirima Village near Bedford Business Centre in Mberengwa.

“Mpofu and Makena of Musvupi Village under Chief Mataruse in Mberengwa had a long standing dispute over Annita as Makena alleged that Mpofu was impregnated by someone else prior to their marriage,” said Insp Mahoko.

On the fateful day, he said, while her husband was away, Mpofu packed her belongings and went back to her parents. However, Insp Mahoko said Mpofu failed to get transport to Zvishavane before she sought refugee at Mudzimu homestead near Bedford Business Centre in Mberengwa.

“The suspect, upon his return home instituted his own investigations on Mpofu’s whereabouts and made a follow-up to Mudzimu homestead. Mpofu had Annita strapped on her back. The suspect then wantonly assaulted Mpofu with a switch and during the process, he struck Annita,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said as a result of the assault, Annita died.

“The suspect is yet to be arrested.

We are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect,” said Insp Mahoko.

Researchers Discover Fossils of Ancient 82-Foot “Giant Fish Lizard” – Tomorrow’s World Today

Scientists discovered the fossil of a second gigantic jawbone, measuring more than 6.5 feet long, on a beach in Somerset, UK. They identified the “giant fish lizard” bones as belonging to the jaw of a new species of ichthyosaur, a type of prehistoric marine reptile that could be the largest ever discovered.

Justin and Ruby Reynolds, a father and daughter from Braunton, originally found the first pieces of the second jawbone in 2020 while searching for fossils on the beach. After realizing they had uncovered a significant fossil, they contacted leading ichthyosaur expert, Dr. Dean Lomax, a paleontologist at The University of Manchester.

Dr Lomax then contacted Paul de la Salle, a seasoned fossil collector who had found the first giant jawbone in May 2016. Justin and Ruby then joined Paul and Dr. Lomax to search for more pieces of the creature. The team eventually uncovered 11 more fragments that seamlessly fit together, which allowed them to piece together a bone at the back of the jaw known as a surangular.

“I was highly impressed that Ruby and Justin correctly identified the discovery as another enormous jawbone from an ichthyosaur. They recognized that it matched the one we described in 2018. I asked them whether they would like to join my team to study and describe this fossil, including naming it. They jumped at the chance. For Ruby, especially, she is now a published scientist who not only found but also helped to name a type of gigantic prehistoric reptile. There are probably not many 15-year-olds who can say that! A Mary Anning in the making, perhaps.” stated Dr. Lomax.

Ministry of Health engages media in the Midlands on cholera outbreak

Online Reporter

JOURNALISTS from different media houses in the Midlands province are meeting with the Ministry of Health and Child Care officials for a media engagement on the cholera outbreak that has been bedevilling the province.

The engagement is being done amid indications that people are dying of cholera mainly in homes after failing to seek medical assistance from the nearest health facilities.

As of today, 51 people from the eight administrative districts making up the province have succumbed to the waterborne disease from over 1 000 cases reported since April last year.

Midlands Provincial Medical Director Dr Mary Muchekeza said there is a need to conscientise the people on the need to engage their nearest village health workers and seek oral treatment so that they deal with the disease.

“The most affected districts are those in mining areas,” she said.
